DEUTSCHE BANK CAFE | LONDON, UK | 2017
A premium café for BaxterStory within the Deutsche Bank headquarters at the award-winning Zig Zag building in London.
Designed by Lynch Architects, the Zig Zag building is at the forefront of a £2.2 billion redevelopment of Central London’s historic Victoria district. The challenge lay in creating a premium space from a white box, encouraging Deutsche Bank staff - spread across 92,000 square feet of the building - to forego the local high-street options by delivering a high-end dining experience on their doorstep.
The client’s commitment to quality provided the opportunity for custom material exploration. Handmade concrete tiles were designed and commissioned for the bespoke marble-topped counter. Custom specifications included the preservation of bubbling to accentuate each tile’s artisanal provenance.
Solid American Black Walnut panelling and hand-dyed leather were used to create a refined, contemporary space that evoked the unique heritage and old-world opulence of London’s historic banking buildings.
